Take Me Along - Chapter 39

Demi's POV

"Has Marie been good this morning?" I ask, pouring syrup on my plate.
"Yeah, for the most part," Selena says. I look up and watch Joe unclip Marie from her bouncer and pull her into his arms. He lays her on his left shoulder and she cuddles her head right into his neck.
"That's so overly cute," Miley says. I nod in agreement.
"I know, I'm adorable." Joe jokes. He looks down at Marie and uses his shirt to wipe up a bit of drool coming from the corner of her mouth.
"Joe, do you want any pancakes?" Selena asks, flipping one over in the pan.
"Why do you even ask me that question, Sel?" Joe easily supports Marie with one arm and he holds out a plate with the other. Selena dishes some out to him and he puts the plate next to me on the table. Selena grabs Marie's baby bouncer and moves it to the table so we can watch her and we all dig in to our pancakes.
When we're done, Miley and Selena insist on putting our dishes in the dishwasher for us.
"You guys, it's not that hard to rinse dishes and put them in the dishwasher." I say, getting up and bringing my plate over to the sink.
"I know but we're here to help you guys." Selena says, taking my plate and rinsing it. I sigh and tie my hair up in a bun.
"I guess I'll feed Marie then." I say, looking over at her. She's captivated Joe and is tightly holding onto his pointer finger.
"Why do you tie your hair up to feed her?" Miley asks, curious.
"So she doesn't get my hair in her mouth when she's nursing. And also, if I have to burp her, she could spit up a bit and I don't want that in my hair." I explain.
"Eww," Selena squeals. "Does she spit up a lot?"
"Uh, now that I think about it, no not really," I say. "I hope that's not bad." I mumble.
"It's probably better than spitting up all the time." Miley says, putting plates into the dishwasher. I nod slowly.
"I'm gonna feed Marie in the living room," I announce. "You can come in if you want, I don't care. Just warning you," I walk over and unclip her from her bouncer and pick her up. Marie is forced to let go of her father's finger and she starts to cry. Joe catches the binky as it falls out of her mouth and I take her into the living room.
"Nice hickey, by the way!" Selena calls after me. My cheeks get red and I sit on the couch and unbutton Joe's flannel a little bit. Marie stops crying once she's happily nursing and I can hear my friends and Joe in the kitchen.
"Marie really loves you, huh?" Miley says quietly.
"Yeah, I guess." Joe mumbles, then I hear him let out a sneeze.
"You guess?" Selena asks. I hear Joe sniffle his nose a little bit.
"I love Marie and all but sometimes I feel like she loves me more than Demi. I don't want that. I want her to love Demi more." Joe explains. I sigh quietly.
"Why?" Miley asks.
"What if something goes wrong and Demi and I are over? I don't want Marie missing me too much." Joe says.
"You love Demi, right?" Selena wonders.
"So much," Joe confirms. I smile slightly.
"And she loves you, right?" Selena says. "So just don't do anything to screw it up and you'll be fine."
"Besides, I'm sure Marie loves you both equally." Miley insists.
"You want to stay in Demi and Marie's lives forever, right?" Selena asks.
"Yeah," Joe says quietly.
"Then make sure that's what you do." Selena says.
