Everybody that I know would fit in this thing with plenty of room to spare.

very nice shelter! I love the concept. I'll have to try this out soon. It's getting real cold here in New England now.

If you increase the angle of the tarps you will catch more of the heat from the fire. According to my swedish survival book "överlevnad", 45 degrees will be the best for rainy conditions and between 70-80 degrees for maximal heat uptake.

Good vid Sean. A suggestion, group shelters are best if the outer walls are a circle around the fire.e.g. the Hogan, the Tipi, the Wikiop, the Igloo. This is an engineering marvel as stone age primitives, apparently with trial and error, discovered the shape that is both thermally most efficient and physically strongest.
Still your polygonal leanto complex has a lot going for it. Good job Sean.
is that with just a group of friends or is it a class you teach?

This setup could be used for either occasion. If it was me and I was on a course and didn't know anybody I might not like to have to sleep so close to everyone else. So I would think this would be better for a group of friends.

Looks very nice, in Sweden we often put our head out and our feet in towards the fire.
In cold your body might conserv blod flow from arms and feet to heat head and inner organs. (feet out, you might wake up with frozen toes or feet)
I rather have 2 exits becaus of the fire hazard with 20 people and allways have a firewatch when camping by a fire, it might save equipment and painfull injure.
I would put up a metal plate beside the fire as a heat reflect on the open side of the shelter

Thanks for the tips. I will adopt your advice the next time I use this group camp.
