A compilation of the work I produced for The Backwater Gospel. It's not a "making of" in the traditional sense, but might still be interesting for those seeking to learn more about the process of creating the short.

The soundtrack has been released as a free EP, which can be found here: http://sonsofperdition.com/index.php?id=51.

The song used in this particular video is by Matt Elliot and is called "The Kursk".

  • They should Make a game with these Graphics, it would be fantastic

  • Great film. It should have won an award. It should also be shown ever year on tv so it can become a Halloween tradition.

This is one of those rare films that reawakens old folklore and the classic "old wives tales". I can almost imagine an old man sitting on a rocking chair in front of a fireplace telling this story.

This film should also be shown in art school to inspire students to become animators.

The visual scenes and characters look like graphics I've seen in comic books.

  • The sketchy 3D model is so incredibly impressive

  • where can i get the music from this video?

  • I'm a student of graphic design in Brussels and I wont to thank you for that animation I love it. I would like to create something of that kind one day :)

  • Amazing short, love the music most of all.

  • From time to time briliant artwork shines and the shadow of the fakeness dissapears for a moment and after a while darkness comes back again...but that moment stays shining for ever in our thoughts.

  • i would really love to read the documents shown at 3:13 is there somewhere i can? :)

  • the art is amazing! ever shot has great prospective. brilliant.

  • @moocowisback I agree. The mix of 2D and 3D reminds me of Viewtiful Joe, did you ever play that? :)

  • I have to say that I adore The Backwater Gospel. The style, the story, the characters. So grungy and unique. Love it. I hope I can make animations with this caliber of quality someday. Well Done. What programs did you use?

  • @moocowisback and simple! very low poly!
