where are coils? are there 2? is he seperated by glass? how is the guitar affecting the coils?

I played behind the tesla-coils(aroud 2m), I used two types. One is small, two is bigger and have two coils, I didn't seperated by glass. I used MIDI interface to the tesla-coils.
