  • I bought it all stock, but did crack the bolt threads on the stem plate that clamps down on the handlebar, so I replaced it with a Dimension stem. The headset is a Richey, and I have an Origin 8 on my Cross Check. The LHT runs 48/36/26 with an 11-34 in the back.

  • For tire pressure, I use the recommended psi from the manufacturer and never the max psi. For example: on my 37s, I'll run them at 60 psi. If you're heavier, you may try 65 or 70 psi. On my 28s, I'll run them at 85 psi - even though the max is 110 psi. Check the manufacturers website for recommended tire pressure for your particular tires.

  • I wouldn't say it handles better, but it does handle very well. The feel becomes very stable when loaded, especially when I put on the small front rack that bolts to the front brake bosses. The forks get a bit stiffer and the LHT seems to like it when you load it down. Once you get moving, it just loves to roll!

  • Thanks. If you like being clipped in -- or feeling like you're clipped in -- you'll love the power grips. Although they aren't necessary, they do transfer a bit more of your energy to the bike. Sometimes they get in the way if you stop a lot -- like I do when commuting to work -- but the nice thing about them as compared to toe clips is you can step on them. You can also let the petal drop and leave the straps hanging on the bottom, but they do drag a bit on the ground. No big deal, though.

  • She's a beaut :) What kind of crankset, headset, and stem do you have? I'm building a Trucker Deluxe and yours has the look!

  • Thanks for the video.... When traveling on a hard road, how much pressure do you put in your tires? Thanks again....

  • Very nice bike! Nothing beats a solid, comfortable, classy touring bike.

Does Surly LHT handle noticeably better under a heavy front and back load than when it's not loaded? I'm noticing that my Fuji Touring actually gets more stable under load. Tubus racks are very strong - I have the Logo on my bike.

  • Nice bike man

Im getting the the 58cm Black LHT, with tubus racks as well, but think i might put on front racks too, as our expedition is going to take months

How do you find the peddles with the power strap? does it actually make a big difference to not using straps?

    cheers

  • beautiful!

  • good stuff... I like your bike!
