Hip hop isn't taken seriously cause the powers that be exploit it for their own means. You miss the point and the history of hip hop. Hip hop is about taking existing sounds, existing tracks and making something new from it. Hip hop is referential and can only be understood as that. J Dilla was definitely creating new shit. By your standard Rock and Roll is not original because the scales, cords and vocal patterns are all heavily borrowed from the blues.

I can't even think of a rapper who doesn't write original lyrics the vast majority of the time. You call sampling not "original," but when it is done properly it takes sounds from different compositions and combines them in new and exciting ways. The bottom line is that anyone who treats hip-hop as disposable is ignorant. You will generally find that talented musicians have huge amounts of respect for hip-hop.

She is too dope. I'm pretty late in discovering her music but in this case, late is certainly better than never! I needed this song to lift my spirits and man, did it work!
