Actually, what the title refers to is that when Lincoln asked for volunteers to defeat the rebellion in 1861, not only did he get as many volunteers as he asked for, but he got an additional 300.000 volunteers.

It´s a very good song. As for drafting citizens, the US government only started doing that when the Condederacy had begun doing that.

@50TNCSA I have no idea where you got this notion that the CSA was officially recognized. You'll only hear that from the rednecks in the SCV. Not one single CSA diplomat was formally received. True, the CSA came CLOSE to official recognition, but almost doesn't count. Regardless, that hope died after Antietam and the spectacular failure of King Cottom diplomacy. By the way, I'm not a reenactor but I am studying for a PhD in history. I hold a master's degree in the subject. How about you?

@50TNCSA Actually, the CSA had no formal diplomatic recognition from anybody. Not from Britain, nor from France, Prussia, Austria, Belgium, or even the Kingdom of Hawai'i. Its legitimacy was as close to absolute zero as you can get.
