Another short clip of the documentary film about the life and music of Tewolde Redda.

The song Shigey habuni (Give me my flame) lives on in the hearts of all Eritreans around the world. It became a symbol of the long and harsh fight against the Ethiopian occupation. Nowadays Eritrea is an independent country, but the writer and singer of this song, Tewolde Redda, lives in exile in the Netherlands, alone with his memories. Will he ever sing his famous song again?

In this fragment of the film Tewolde Redda sings a new song, at his home in Rotterdam

produced by Cobos Films & RTV Rijnmond
director: Marc Schmidt

  • Thank u Tewolde Redda u r a pride of not only of ur birth place Eritrea but of the world & humans. Sing freedom. You know the truth. The truth is there is a beast in Eritrea. A beast that it killing it from within. Sing the old songs. Sing for Eritrea and cry

  • Oh my Dear Eritrea. How did we get to this point. Where lunatics rule. Lunatics perhaps we collectively assumed "freedom fighters" We trusted them. We believed all Eritreans will be free and no Ereitean will be forgotten. Boy, did we assumed too much, disregarding the imperfection of humans.

  • Eritrea and the harsh fighting against the Ethiopian occupation never forget. Our people never get peace, and never get rest through history, today song history, and world should knew Eritrean people are paid heavy price and still. Shigey is a kind of one we love to see. Thank you for sharing with us.

  • this is wow, wow, wowow. I don't know how to describe it. Please upload some more. I love art and in every Eritrean artists there is colorful flavor in every piece of the art they perform.

  • I just heared this song 4 times and I can not get enough of it. I just feel lucky to hear him sing now. He has still nice voice. Hope to hear him one day in one of the cinema stages in Asmara. Thank you for your work Tewolde Redda. Please upload more clips of this documentary.

  • Wow!!! TEWELDE REDDA is a living legend. Most likely he was the first African to master the art of playing the GUITAR. His guitar always sounds so unique. He has inspired and continues to inspire many Eritrean and Ethiopian guitar players. His songs will always remember in our memory. Thanks for uploading, and I salute you Tewolde.

  • please give as more and more we miss you a lot.God bless you our hero.

  • nice vid and great music.

as a young eritrean i have admired his work and never forgotten his artistic influence and most of all his aspire for our "impossible revolution" song. so the notion "he seem to be forgotten alone with his memories," for me it is way overstatement, coincidentally i'v posted a video before ur post "ERITREA LATE 1800 ..." at least that might give u a second thought on my perspective
