From JIMMY JAMES: 7/20/2010
This song is inspired by the very exciting contributing editor of VOGUE Magazine - ANDRE LEON TALLEY.
He was my muse for this song. Never at a loss for words when it comes to fashion, Mr. Talley is very compelling when he talks about fashion. He should have his own show about fashion.

When I was living in New York ('93-2009) I was always exposed to fashion. The fashion industry was fascinating to me even though I couldn't always afford it or FIT into it. I'm excited by fashion of every level - from the expensive to the inexpensive. Fashion has the power to give you 'a look.' To me fashion and music work very well together.

The first lyrics "Fashion is the art designers are the gods..."
comes from the insane emphasis that people put on fashion especially in New York, London, Paris, Milan. This is a very serious industry.

The overall tone for the song is to be vague as to whether or not I am serious or satirizing the fashion industry. I like either interpretation.

The "Designer Wrap" ("WRAP!" not "Rap" lol)
After sifting through tons of designers names, I thought I would chose the one's who most influenced me on some level.

The lyric, "Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci" is a tribute, a tip of the hat to one of my favorite disco songs by Sister Sledge -
"He's The Greatest Dancer."

FASHIONISTA was the first song I wrote for the record label.
After writing the first draft of lyrics, I thought I wrote something that was too unusual to be recorded.
I called the label up and said, "I've written something kinda weird but I don't want to second guess myself..." so I sang it for them over the phone. They got excited and told me to come to the studio the next day. They felt I had a hit.

FASHIONISTA charted in the top 20 of the BILLBOARD Dance charts. Some of the television shows who have played or licensed the song are: THE TODAY SHOW, AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE ... and more...
also the teenage movie soundtrack BRING IT ON #5.

  • @CenturianRule These gays are EVOLVED enough to let me sing my OWN original music WITHOUT being in a wig and a dress. For me that's saying a lot. By the way this song was a hit worldwide in STRAIGHT & GAY clubs. I've done the same thing in "Straight" dance clubs. Dance music and dancing is just fun for EVERYBODY.

  • i thought of him being skinny n gay like other gay fashion dudes

  • i want to be there.

  • I love ya Jimmy, but that headdress thing just isn't working. It might pass at something like mardi gras, but not when you're performing a song about being fashionable. I'm really sorry. I just think you'd look a lot better without it sweetie.

  • Guess fashion is not for everyone and physical beauty fades. If "no one ugly allowed" how come so many staking looking locas are in that place? Yeah theres some booing in the crowed. And yeah wtf is he wearing? Come on get him out

  • You're amazing!

  • wtf WHY IS HE WEARING MAKEUP ONLY HOMOS DO THAT! DO YOU HEAR THE BOOING IN THE BACKGROUND??? any agree?

  • Great video!

  • fab-u-lous --- can't wait to see Jimmy again in Ptown.... Never miss him!!!!!!
