video: Uncle Tom's Cabin 1927 (made 81 years ago, the uploader intended no offense)

You hear de lambs a-cryin',
oh shepherd, feed a my sheep.

My saviour spoke these words so sweet:
oh shepherd, feed a my sheep.

Say Peter, if you love me, feed my sheep,
oh shepherd, feed a my sheep.

My Lord I love Thee, Thou does know,
oh shepherd, feed a my sheep.

oh give me grace to love Thee more,
oh shepherd, feed a my sheep.

You hear de lambs a-cryin'
oh shepherd, feed a my sheep.

  • Thank you. This is lovely. I have always wanted to see this film. I have read a great deal about the making of this film and the casting of James B. Lowe (Uncle Tom) who visited London in 1928 to promote it. Gertrude Howard (Aunt Chloe, the "mammy" in this extract) later made I'm No Angel with Mae West in 1933, the year she (Howard) passed away. She played West's maid Beulah ("peel me a grape") and her position as Hollywood's favourite mammy was inherited by Louise Beavers and Hattie McDaniel.

  • What an awful film to use. Robeson would be ashamed.
