HOLLYWOOD -

Actor James Hong was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Hollywood (CAPE) December 2, 2008.

In this three part interview, Hong urges APAs to cooperate with each other and work with organizations such as CAPE to promote more roles for APAs in film and television.

Hong tells AsianConnections he's sorry to say that Asian actors "have not progressed that much" in his 55 years in Hollywood. We are still being "rescued by the white people."

Hong was joined at the gala by his family including his daughter April, also an actor in Hollywood who most recently played a role on a network television show that was not earmarked for an "ethnic" actor.

Hong, is a veteran actor with a celebrated career spanning more than 55 years in Hollywood. He was honored at a standing room only gala fundraiser at the Cafe La Boheme in Hollywood. He has played more than 500 roles in American film and television.

Among his most recent roles are "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (December 2008 release), and "Kung Fu Panda" playing Mr. Ping, Po's (Jack Black) father. He is nominated for an Annie Award for his role as Mr. Ping.

  • Mr.Ping !!!

  • A fantastic and underrated actor.

  • You should know that you can see him live Saturday night at Monsterpalooza. The Hong Show is at 8pm. 4/9/11 Look it up! Also, if you rsvp in advance by emailing replyhong at gmail dot com, you can get in for $12 instead of the $15. It’s at the Burbank Marriott hotel. Cheers!

  • I remember him from Big Trouble in Little China. LOL

  • James Hong is an amazing Asian-American actor. It's a shame that he like other Asian-American actors have been relegated to silly roles. Star Trek I think did a good job with giving Asian-American actors good roles.

  • i love his voice in kung fu panda! =]

  • i met him today at school!

  • Hong... is a legend.

One of my all time favorite actors.
