If there was a proper nickname for Eddie Floyd it would be 'underrated'... The man was an architect in the whole Southern Soul movement... wrote dozens of soul classics... kept it real thoughout the disco and synth pop age... and still he hasn't received his due. The tragedy of the Soul Man... he gets ignored. Long may Eddie Floyd live.
Did this great song get lost during the transition of Stax being held by Atlantic when it was recorded, and all the legal crap that Atlantic pulled on the folks at Stax over ownership of the masters? This was released right at the break point and should have been a huge hit. It didn't even chart in the U.S. Too bad... it's a great tune.
