SMS Emden was a light cruiser of the German navy. Her raiding cruise in the second half of 1914 was one of the most romanticised incidents of World War I. The Emden raided Allied shipping in the Indian Ocean, sinking or capturing thirty Allied merchant vessels and warships before being run aground by her captain to prevent her from sinking, after engaging HMAS Sydney at the Battle of Cocos.

  • A wonderful tribute to a fine ship. The bravery, skill and humanity of the German sailor was never more evident than in the Captain and crew of this amazing vessel.

  • bloody remarkable ship.

  • @gibby101sweet1 Was scuttled on Cocas Island

  • One of the things most dont remember and is never talked about. Hitler not only caused all that death and horror he perverted one of the most respected fighting forces known. Forced out those who werent Nazies and tarnished a great force.

Of course in many respects he still couldn't completely destroy the Honor of the german military and in particular the german navy. When you have to build a army of troops to do horrible deeds because the others refuse there is hope still for the fallen.

  • the fate of emden is unknown for me i have been looking to what happen to her for 6 years now and still no real fate for a great ship

  • Thanks, great video!

  • Who would have thought that such a small ship could reap such havoc.

The old coal burning ships of the WW1 era are great to look at.

    Cheers

Also komm klar.
