they want the white person's money.

Strange, as there are quite a few white people in Shanghai. I think he must have either done something which shows that he has alot of money or angered them in some way.

I study at Ningbo which is about 3 hours from shanghai, so we tend to visit shanghai frequently. I know exactly what you are talking about. The trick is to make them seem like they are just wasting their time with you. Also bear in mind they live in a developing country and are just trying to make some money...

OMG That is exactly what happened to me when I went to China over the summer. We went to several cities, but it was the worst in Beijing & Shanghai. Everywhere you went someone was trying to sell you something & yelling "1 Ruan! or 1 Dollar". lol It was kind of nerve wracking at first then it just became irritating.

damn it, why are they so desperate for money? and why on earth do you think that white people in china are acturally product hungry consummers? where are the cops when you needed them.
I think the white guy must have done something that annoyed the locals. Usually Chinese ppl are very friendly to foreigners.

Our entire stay in Beijing there were two women always waiting outside our hotel by our bus trying to sell us things. lol Other than that, most people were so nice/generous. That and the beautiful scenery made it all worth it!
