The little rhythm guitar riff that runs behind the main melody was the reason for doing this. I was idly playing the riff on an acoustic guitar when it seemed like a good guitar to record it and play something mellow and melodic over the top. And, if two guitars, why not a spot of piano, bass and drums... Makes a change to get back to some electric playing these days!

The tune is really an exercise in restraint - making sure the piano riffs mesh in with the guitar riff - and then playing the lead in such a way that it complements both these sounds. Not too many notes at any stage. The guitar I play is my 1987 G&L ASAT - one of the last guitars to be made under the eagle eye of Leo Fender - played through a Laney 65w combo amp. The piano is a Korg N1, and I'm using a Tanglewood acoustic bass guitar.

I'll be doing a little tutorial on the guitar riff for this tune soon - watch this space...

  • put some pants on for pete's sake

  • @nicecoolbuddy Should have called it "Commando Blues..." perhaps... :-)

  • Hi Will. Whenever I hear you play I always feel obliged to respond but try and resist spontaneous responses. I've just finished an arduous day composing my latest and final essay for an OU course. Ive poured a G n T and I could not have chilled out to a better end to the evening. The Blues covers many moods, not least therapeutic. Thank you.

  • @MrBillbroonzy Finished the course, eh? Well done! Glad the blues added to the chilled G&T effect...:-)

  • Great playing...nice slow blues...where did you get that back-up track? I was using that 'hybrid' style of picking in '58 with a flat pick...just couldn't get the hang of a thumbpick!

  • @countryclassic The backing track is me - multi-tracked. The drums come from a Zoom machine - all the rest is live instruments. :-)

  • Propre net et bien joué ! Merci pour ce bon blues.

  • Very nice, Will. Has the T-bone Walker feel to it. Nice double picking at the end too. A touch of Stormy Monday, for sure:)
