Here's some example footage shot with a DIY dolly with a canon 7D.

Video also shows the difference between slow motion of Kdenlive and Avidemux for Ubuntu. I shot at 60p for slow motion and slowed to 24p. Avidemux is a lot better (but both are free) for slow motion.

Kdenlive kills every video editor out to date.
-HD editing at full time with backround auto proxy files
-nice effects lidt
-nice fades and transitions
-works flawless
-FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some photos and parts list of my dolly at end of video.

All you do is download Avidemux and open the video...at the top of the screen there are some drop down menus. The one you'll be looking for is the "video" tab. Drop down, go to frame rate and change to...23.976, or what ever your time line is is. You need to be shooting in progressive frame rate and also a frame rate of 60 fps to get good results. Also there is a new programe called "slowmoVideo" for ubuntu that was just realeased and looks fantastic! Google it.
