Hattie McDaniel had to sit in the kitchen of the theatre where the 1940 Academy Awards were held, then came to the state to receiver her award, and then had to be escorted back to the kitchen. She was not allowed to sit in the auditorium (seats) of the theatre among her collegues (actors, directors, etc).

She can say "Oscar" -- with the SK sound -- but she seems to have trouble with the word "aKs." Notice she doesn't pronounce "Oscar" as "Ocsar."
