sort of. they were the first of what we call 'boy bands' now. created by producers to cash in on Beatle mania and the Brit sound in general. It was basically a TV show inspired by the success of the Beatles film A Hard Day's Night, however they surprised some critics by releasing some reasonably good music.

The producers actually did a pretty good job forming the group.
What the media world calls talent today does seem to be lacking in one major area though; Imagination. It's exactly how the modern music industry predicted it would end up. Boards string together involuted subliminal scenes and leave the lyrics and heavy vocal filler for last.
