Demo of the 1997 Gibson "The Paul" II guitar for anybody out there that wants to hear what it sounds like before they buy one. The pickups on the guitar are original, although one of the pickup covers has been removed. Also, a pickguard and creme hardware has been added. The "Amp" in this video is actually Amplitube 2 software (guitar is plugged directly into the soundcard), set to the 50 watt EL-34 "British" amp, with low gain and reverb settings. I also turned the presence and treble down on the amp setting a bit, as the pickups on this guitar are very bright. Tone knobs for both pickups are set at 5 throughout the demo. The video starts off with me playing in the middle pickup position with both pickup volumes on 5. I later crank each individual pickup knob up to 10 as I demonstrate them; and end up back at the middle position at the end (with both knobs on 10). Hopefully this will give you an idea of what the guitar sounds like. This guitar is similar to a Les Paul Studio (except for the block inlays), but only weighs about 7.5 pounds, which is a lot less than the Studio. I'm pretty sure it has a "slim taper" neck, which is also a little different than the Gibson Les Paul Studio; which has a baseball bat for a neck. Just my opinion, I guess.
BTW: I know I'm not a great player, I just like the sounds that a guitar makes. Please use this video to judge the guitar, not the player.

  • Hey nice I have the same model only in Cherry!

I suspect the wiring has stuffed up in mine, any chance you could post a couple of pictures of the wiring in yours for comparison?

  • @beamflies I don't have the guitar any more. I wish that I did. But the wiring is the same as any other les paul. Same pickups as a Gibson Les Paul Studio, so just find a wiring diagram for that.
