Illusions Of Reality.

"Why do you hate me!?" I screamed.
"I do NOT hate you, Jasmine!"
Queen Selena was holding my father's arm, as if she cared if he hit me. Yeah, fucking right. Stupid bitch. Tears were threatening to fall out when our front door opened, revealing my older brother, Dustin. He was supposed to be spending thanksgiving with his girlfriend but I called him. I had no choice. He was the only person on my side.
"Jazzy?" He said, stepping in.
I ran past my dad who tried to grab me and threw my arms around him.
"Jaz, whats the matter, now?" He said, catching me.
Dad jerked his arm from Selena. "Oh no, no, young lady!" He said, shaking his head. "If you think that your brother can change my mind .. you are wrong. BEYOND wrong!"
"Joe!" I heard her scream.
I ripped apart from sobbing into Dustin's chest and stared at my dad over my blurred vision.
"And if you think I'll come prancing down that fucking aisle to support your marriage with that fucking backstabber, then YOU'RE wrong! I hate you! But I don't think that matters because your perfect little Selena loves you enough, right!? I HATE you!" With that, I turned and ran up to my room.

(Joe)
"Did she just swear at me!?" I turn to Selena. "Since when did she learn those words!?"
A sigh comes from Dustin and a slam echoes from upstairs. My son jogs up the stairs at the same second.

[[Upstairs]]
The door creaks open and I know its Dustin. He's the only one that cared.
I stared at the tv screen, hugging my pillow tighter.
"He hates me so much .."
He sighs and sits on the floor with me.
"Dusty .. they're getting married. Dad proposed to her." I shut my eyes, about to say what hurted the most. "He forgot about mom."
I felt myself get craddled in my brother's arms as we both watched the tv. It was a home video. And it was only one of the many memories my dad threw away. He threw away everything that he ever had with my mom. He hates us.

After two long hours of listening to my baby sister cry, she fell asleep and I tucked her in bed. I made my way downstairs to get myself a drink from the kitchen. There, I saw my dad drinking a can of beer. Selena must've gone home.
"Did she fall asleep?" He asked, playing with the top of his can.
"Yeah," I said, popping a can open before taking a sip.
There was a long pause. Yeah, thats probably how far the two of us drifted.
"You know .. she asked me if she could live with me and Carmella."
My dad's head shot up. "Dus, you wouldn't. Tell me you wouldn't take her from me."
I looked down at my can, guilty. I WOULD.
"Please, Dustin. I know your at a legal age, but please. Don't take my baby away from me."
That was the first in a long time that my father begged me. And he sounded desperate.
"She's fifteen." I felt the table shake a bit when my dad slammed his fist on it. "Please," He said.
I looked up at him. "Exactly, dad. She's fifteen. But when was the last time you actually treated her like your baby? She'll always be your baby girl, but she's old enough to feel how much your truly hurting her."
He runs his fingers through his messy hair.
"Did you .." He questions, whispering as if ashamed. "Did I ever hurt you like that?"
I feel a lump forming in my throat.
"Maybe thats why I want to take her .. I know how it feels, dad. It hurts and I had to live with that kind of pain for almost two years."
"I miss everything so much, Dustin .."
"Who?"
"You. Your sister." He looks at me with clouded eyes. "Your mother .."
I stare back at him and after a minute I could've figured that my eyes were as clouded as his.
"Dad .. That's the first time you said that."
He stared at me, looking so destroyed until a tear finally hit the ground. After that, he sink his head down, crying silently. And I knew .. my dad finally accepted something he never could. And that was how miserable he was without my mom.
