Come on. Pleassse.

The way she spoke had no emotion. Her words hollow and monotone. Talking to a brick wall at this point would have been easier. She didn't even need to ask why he was here. She knew, and she didn't want to hear the answer.

"How long are you staying?"

"That depends."

"On what?"

"You"

Again. Silence. She gave him a look. That look. And he knew he shouldn't have come. Hayden Baker hates surprises. Especially when their four years overdue.

Her lips curved downward and twitched as a salty taste grew in the back of her throat. But she wouldn't cry. He had made her cry one too many times, and she wasn't about to look vulnerable in front of him.

"Hay" He whispered, his voice raspy from the lump in his throat.

"Why are you here?"

"I had to come back some day"

"No. You didn't. You chose too"

"I missed you"

"I got over missing you a while ago..."

. Austin had made the assumption that she would embrace him and then they would go to her room and relive his 16th birthday present. It had been a while since sex actually meant something more than a casual fuck.

"Come in, it's like negative 50 degrees out here..." Hayden opened the door wide for him to step in. But he hesitated, debating wether he would risk getting hypothermia or have to deprive himself of staring at her legs.

He chose the legs and followed her into the living room.

She sat on the couch, trying to sink into the cushions as if that would make her vanish at least for a little while.

"I want you to switch bodies with me, so you can just see how much your eyes shine" Hayden had once told him. And she couldn't help but to notice that statment still held true.

"But if we switched bodies you wouldn't want to know what would happen with your body behind closed doors" He said during one of the many nights they just layed in his bed listening to music.

She had once supported his music carreer, and at any given moment, would have packed up her things and moved anywhere with him. She would have gone through the endevour of not seeing him for months as long as that meant at the end of it all, he would be back.

But thats what happens when you give everything to your high school sweet heart.

Hayden pulled her knees to her chest as Austin sat at the opposite end of the couch. She twisted the larger diamond on her ring finger around, hoping it would avoid Austin's gaze. There was a time and a place to tell people things like that, and now was neither.

But as said before, Austin Ruddell had his sources. He knew that she was marrying Conner Braiser after only six months. Five of which they weren't engaged. He asked himself why millions of times.

Why would she settle for him of all people. Conner was that guy in high school that everyone loved to hate. He was the guy that slept with half the school's female population and got by on his looks.

Austin couldn't even figure out how they got together. Conner went to college on the west coast and everyone thought he would never come back. And meanwhile Hayden was coming to the conclusion that she was attracted to the type that didn't want to stay around and be her knight and shining armor.

Until two in the morning on October 21st. Conner had a change in personality. While away on another bussiness trip, -he worked at his rich daddy's architectural firm- Conner took a midnight flight home. He got down on one knee next to her bedside and shook her softly until he saw her eyes flutter open.

"Hey baby" He whispered, kissing her gently on the forehead "This morning I was thinking... I know were both really young an we both have a lot going on in our lives, but I realized I'm in so deep with you."

Hayden layed there, half asleep, processing words, and grinning from ear to ear.

"So I was wondering, do you think you want to get married sometime?"

And her response was either the worst or best desicion of her life.

"Yes"
