March for Life Ottawa - 2009

The National March for Life is an annual prolife march in the nation's capital. It's an event organized by the Campaign Life Coalition.

Last year more than 8000 people attended. This year we hope to exceed that number by far. This is anti-woman. What makes you think you can take my rights away? Who are these people that they think that they get to make such a life changing decision for all Canadian women. What a lack of morality. You would give a fetus the right to life at the cost of the lives of women.

It is none of anyone's business what I do with my body. I pity anyone who supports this narrow-minded and harmful 'cause'.

Hi my32. #1) Abortion itself is harmful to women. A major study showed that 64% of women felt coerced into having an abortion. Statistically valid studies establish a minimum 14-20% of women who abort end up suffering with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder with a possibility of up to 65%. A Swedish gov't study found that women who abort have a 6 times higher rate of suicide than those who don't. (#2) The fetus is a baby. What about her body? At 7 wks u see a fully formed baby with all her parts.

There isn't a study around that says smoking isn't bad for you, and yet we allow it. We allow people to smoke and infect others with second hand smoke, which effects a lot more lives than abortion. But we give them the choice. They choose to smoke because that is what freedom is. Taking away a woman's right to choose, no matter what it is, is wrong. It is unconstitutional.

You say women feel coerced into having an abortion. Taking away the right to choose...isn't that JUST like coercion?

Murrison, a few points u havent considered. #1 - 2nd hand smoke doesn't cause other people to feel their lives and past choices are so bad that they want to commit suicide, # 2 - if u smoke next to me, a non-smoker, you're not directly and positively killing me. When a mom has an abortion (or is forced to by her boyfriend) she is directly and positively killing her baby, #3 Why do you avoid naming "the choice"? Its to murder a child. There's no constitutional right to murder innocent children.

If abortion is a crime, what is a suitable punishment for the woman? Murder will you get you 20 years in a prison, I believe.

I'm curious - do you not agree that abortion is a crime, morally if not legally? Pls provide your logic explaining why that is so. If you don't agree abortion is a crime, would you also argue that suffocating a newborn should not be a crime if let's say, the mother decides 1 week after birth that she no longer wants him?

Hey Farazag... it's 2009, not the 1970's, you are about 40 years behind on your science man!. A sperm cell has 23 chromosomes which is not a new human. Every cell in the body has 46 Chromosomes except the sperm and the egg, which have 23 Chromosomes each. At conception the come together 23+23=46 = a new human... that's basic arithmatic man!

@Legionaryb, the video you commented on is in CANADA, not the U.S., which is properly referred to as the UNITED STATES, not "America." Painting pro-life people as aging Christian fundamentalists & indoctrinated youth never really was accurate & is clearly not worth taking seriously now. I'm Jewish & was also raised to consider 98%+ of abortions wrong. I know former pro-abort atheists/agnostics, scientists who're pro-life. Tradition dies hard in UK > Despite your claims, MANY Brits are pro-life.

I am a pro-life woman and I find the idea that torturing and murdering innocent and defenseless human beings has something to do with so called "women's rights" extremely offensive. Please try to find some stories about abortion survivors (Gianna Jessen, Heidi Huffman, Melissa Ohden, Ximena Renaerts...). What choice did these WOMEN have?
