Tony Benn hosts 'Another World is Possible' with Frances O'Grady (TUC), Chris Baugh (PCS) and Adam Sampson (Shelter), Jenna Tumoli of the Teachers Union and George Monbiot, author, activist and columnist for The Guardian, who - close to the eve of Tony Blair's departure from Number 10 - called for action toward trying Blair for crimes against humanity for his responsibility in the deadly war against Iraq. Monbiot vividly painted a frightening, realistic picture for attendants at The Left Field tent on Sunday, June 24th 2007 - inviting us to imagine if everyone at the Glastonbury 2007 festival (more than 177,500 people) X4 - were dead. He commented that the latest body count reports say 650,000 people have been killed in the war, but it is now likely up to 1 million. Monbiot told the crowd:
"The Iraq war is the dominant fact of Blair's prime minister-ship...and you can only look back toward Pol Pot to find an equal war crime....Blair & Bush are the biggest war cirminals since Pol Pot! And the Labour Party? Where the hell were they? Where were the MPs, the trade unionists who gave money to these war criminals? Are we so passive that we would allow this to happen? What has happened to us?" He went on to put a call to action to:
(1) Never forget what is happening & what has happened in Iraq, and
(2) That Tony Blair must end his days behind bars as a war criminal who should stand trial for his crimes...
"...and that should be Blair's legacy!"
Let us all help to speed the day when this wonderful earth and its rich resources are held in common for the benefit of all humanity.Workers of all lands unite.
