Back in 1998, Thomas Dunning brought together a great group of Chicago musicians and singers to cover Kate Bush songs on the album "I Wanna Be Kate".

Thomas Negovan and "Three Years Ghost" did this stunning orchestral arrangement of the opening song of Kate's masterwork "The Ninth Wave". Susan Voelz of Poi Dog Pondering is the featured violinist.

  • I wondered what this chamber orchestra's long intro reminded me of, and now it's clicked - Peter Warlock's "The Curlew". I admire the musicianship here, and the adventurous spirit of all the KB covers done at this festival. They've avoided slavish imitation, anyway. But I have to say that this version doesn't succeed for me, though I'd need to hear it a few more times to be sure.

  • Fair and knowledgeable bit of criticism. I would have preferred a soprano doing the vocals. But given the venue and likely limited amount of rehearsal time, I still feel that they did a very good job.

  • Awesome rendition. I've heard this murdered on Youtube many a time - but this was a pleasant change. Well done. (Now where can I download that album?) :P

  • The album "I Want The Be Kate" is now available on iTunes. And the studio version is better than this live one, as might be expected.

  • I don't think the crowd was particularly rude given the location. I was shooting this from the crowd, it was a bar, 3 hours into the concert, and it's a string ensemble.

Torture? This is a great version! I loved the original and love this cover.

  • stop disliking this! If you don't understand what it is - go away and learn.

  • I found this GEM, 'I wanna be Kate' a few years ago in a used record shop & its STILL one of my favs! Alas, K8fan is right, a bar full of drunks is not the way to appreciate this his song its one of the best on the album.

its shatteringly fragile and absolutely sublime! ALL kate fans should hear this unique album! it includes 2 obscure KB tunez; Not this time and I'll be home for Christmas, equally outstanding!

  • This is actually terrible. They turned it into a dirge =[

  • tough to pull a section off the second side of "Hounds of Love" and have it stand on its own, especially in a forum like this. As when, on Oscar night, they take a twenty second excerpt to demonstrate the virtues of a three hour film and it merely leave the audience baffled rather than convinced. In context, this "song" is just a lullaby-prelude to two drownings: one accidental(Under Ice) , the other intentional and ritualistic (Waking the Witch). They gave it a bold effort, though.

  • It ain't that bad. I'll give it 3 stars. The singer obviously has a good voice, but the music sucks to some degree. Some parts might be considered torture. This is not music fit for a drunk pub audience.

  • ermm, yeah needs a female sining this. Audience didn't help I must say.

  • The strings were great, and then he started singing - Yuk!
