San Mateo Ixtatan, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The song "Late A Come" is Jamaican and performed as part of a 2 week choral workshop with 35 participants from the local middle school. Workshop provided in conjunction with the Ixtatan Foundation (http://www.ixtatan.com) and Asociacion INHAT (http://www.inhat.org). This song, along with most of the others we learned, can be found in Peter Hunt's "Voiceworks 1" for young choirs book. This book was an excellent resource for a beginning choir and was particularly helpful in offering songs that afford easy pronunciation and lots of musicality skills to build upon. The kids, as always, were wonderful! This was their first performance and they sang for the 4to and 5to grades - a very nerve-wracking experience for first-time performers, and they handled themselves beautifully. Leading the music here is Heather Hightower (http://www.consciousgirlsguide.com), who taught in SMI in 2006 and who leads musical workshops wherever she travels. If you'd like Heather to lead a workshop in your area, get in contact through her blog. (http://www.consciousgirlsguide.com)
