Here's the antidote to Sgt. Pepper Spray: a cop who gets the difference between social peace and repression.

Captain Ray Lewis was a very good cop
A very very very very very very good cop
He tried to build community
As much as they'd allow
In the police force where he endorsed
Getting to know instead of a show of weapons

Down at Wall Street he appeared so neat
And everyone designed their own picket sign
His read:
NYPD, Don't be Wall Street Mercenaries
If democracy's a coal mine, we're the canaries

These protestors are right, and they have my strongest backing
Woulda been here sooner but I was tryin to stop the fracking
Don't defend the 1% said Ray
Come all ye cops and hear what I say
People are starving and freezing in the dark
And here you are worried bout dirt in the park
These are public officers we're meant to be trusting
Instead they're obnoxious, ignorant, arrogant, & disgusting

Cop on the beat is a two-bit player
Wanta know why they're beating
Ask the mayor
Jackin' up the rents, then they take away your tents
Here's what you gotta do

Get rid of the power of corporate America
Make them impotent, or they'll continue to
Exploit and manipulate the working class
Even the cops, who don't realize they're exploited
They'll arrest me, but I'll be right back here
So join us in the protest
And afterwards we'll have a beer

Now Philly treats him like he's got a social disease
How silly of Philly to be so ill at ease
So here's to Ray
Keep sayin' what you say
Hope they don't take your pension
Away

We need cops like Captain Ray
We need cops like Captain Ray
We need cops like Captain Ray
Then things will be OK
Or a little better

Get rid of the power of corporate America
Make them impotent, or they'll continue to
Exploit and manipulate the working class
Even the cops, who don't realize they're exploited
They'll arrest me, but I'll be right back here
So join us in the protest
And afterwards we'll have a beer
