BBC/OU Annual Lecture 2009: Dawkins on Darwin Q&A (Part 1 of 4)

After the lecture a questions and answers session took place, involving a panel of Darwin experts and hosted by Jonathan Silvertown, Professor of Ecology at The Open University and editor of the book 99% Ape, which forms the basis of Darwin and Evolution at the Open University.

The panel includes: Jim Moore11, Professor of the History of Science at The Open University and co-author of Darwins Sacred Cause; Doctor Peter Skelton12, Reader in Palaeobiology at The Open University and a contributor to 99% Ape and Steve Jones, Professor of Genetics at University College London and author of Darwins Island: the Galapagos in the Garden of England.

The Annual Lecture was held in partnership with Darwin 2005 and co-hosted by the Natural History Museum, and formed part of the Darwin 200 celebrations.

It stultifies the mind and corrupts the ability of a person to engage his critical thinking skills about something as important as our origins. The fight against Christians for science-based teaching is as important to our well-being as fighting the rabid Islamo-fascists.

This man is helping spare civilization from the quicksand of religious obfuscation and regression to a time when people attributed phenomena to figurative sky deities. Christian Creationism is as great a threat to us as any religious extremist from the middle east because as the Muslim fanatic nibbles away with his terrorism, the Creationist nibbles away at the soul of our nation and the hearts and minds of our youth. @klalkity Understanding Dawkin's work does not mean it is true. Dawkins did not turn evolution to selection on genes. A lot of other people did, he just popularized it. Gene as the unit of selection is still a widely debated issue. E O Wilson who once hated group selection, has observed things that point to group selection.
