Lincoln famously stated that the black man was not equal to the white man and Lincoln was merely appeasing abolitionist from a political standpoint because the union was losing the war. Lincoln freed slaves to increase his troop size. Come on its an easy political move. What slave wouldnt fight against confederates who enslaved them. Lincoln's premise:Fight for the union, win your freedom.
