  • That May afternoon at the Lausitzring in 2003 saw the greatest moment in the history of motor racing. It beats any title showdown, any close finish, any broken record there has ever been. Alex Zanardi spent many years afterwards in World Touring Cars - and won four times. He drove a BMW Sauber F1 car at Jerez in 2006. He now competes in paracycling and is aiming for a place in the Italian team at the 2012 Paralympics. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the definition of courage and determination.

  • This guy doesn't stop amazing me!

He just won the NYC hand cycle Marathon!

  • @PhantomDrums917 Zanardi himself isn't afraid to let people see it - in his autobiography My Sweetest Victory(grab a copy if you haven't already - great read), that still image IS included. It's where I first noticed this, in fact...

  • @DBoy02 I was thinking the exact same thing. What also gets me is that there are Youtube guidelines about things like that and there are certain crashes they won't even show still today, but that brutally graphic photo of the disintegration of his limbs has never been take down. I can barely stand to look at it.

  • @nickasu420 *Looks slightly puzzled*...what about 2001??

  • @azapro911 2001?

  • The thing that's always bothered me about the Zanardi crash, above literally every other detail, is that in the still images you can CLEARLY see chunks of his legs flying off with the wreckage. Nothing else will ever drive home how serious a crash it was than the first time you actually spot that particular detail.

For pulling through and actually going back to racing -and winning- Alex Zanardi is truly an inspiration to all.

  • One of a kind! Rispetto infinito per Alex.

  • A vida não tira oportunidades; apenas te da outros caminhos. This guy is fucking awesome!!

  • Just amazing. Zanardi, Dr. Olvey, and everybody who made this miracle happen are all incredible people.

  • 4:18 I nearly shed a tear...

  • Alex is a great man and a hero
