Here is an example of some rough Leopard Opal showing spectacular colour play. This is an all natural untreated specimen recovered directly from the mine site. This is a new discovery that was found in the traditional territories of the Aztec Empire of Central Mexico. This mine had been worked many hundreds of years ago and has only recently been re-discovered. This opal occurs in a vesicular basalt in volcanic rocks - unlike Australian Boulder Matrix Opal which occurs in an iron-stone matrix.
