You should read the book the Italian Job by Gianluca Vialli comparing english football with the rest of europe.
We can definitely improve our skill level but you can never EVER intimidate an England team physically,
And that is something I've always taken pride in
And it looks like the young english players are getting better techniquely so hopefully soon we will have a good team

@99bibibi dont forget ashley cole is the best left back in the world, not center back but still. england also have micah richards who is young and glen johnson both are top right backs in the EPL.

@MrSheffield8 good point. jones has the potential to be really something special. for all that england have been lacking over the years, one thing that has to noted is that the country continues to produce top quality defenders. ferdinand and terry were and arguably still are up there with the very best europe has to offer.
