Outboard motor wouldn't Start, don't you hate that. We were out on the Little Markhem Whaler fishing the 2010 Barra Pro Classic, and our Port Motor was dead, Thought it was the Batteries, but after using a fully charged one and swapping batteries over, Still couldn't get it to run. With nothing else to try, thought better have a look at the fuses on the motor, so well worth checking, you'll see it's just a little fuse holder box with a blade fuse inside, just a 50 cent part, but enough to ruin your trip, so keep this in mind. We were putting around on one motor, but definately very happy to get both motors running. There was a spare fuse in the holder and as soon as we swapped this over, started straight away. Easy fix and well worth checking.
Always good to have two outboard motors, and this is another benefit of having a Cat, even though we were in an Impoundment, fishing offshore, two motors is well worth considering, at least you've got one too get back on.
We were fishing on Teemburra dam chasing Barramundi, but alot of boats on the water and the barra were quiet. Still some beautiful scenery, countless snags, and well worth a fish if you get up to Mackay. Normally great fishing but we couldn't raise a scale!!
Please subscribe for more great fishing action, and boating tips. Will get back out on the water soon, weather has been lousy lately,
Cheers Greg

  • I checked the fuse after I saw this they are fine changed spark plugs and everything it's a 2010 seems like it's not getting gas I turned it on once with the choke then as soon as I put choke down it shut off now does not turn on ... but will turn

  • It's a simple thing, but make sure you haven't accidently turned of the kill switch. Sounds like you have power to the motor. Make sure you've got fuel to the motor, and no water in your filters. Water kills four strokes real easy and blocks up your injectors, expensive if that happens. Or else can be electrical problems if no spark? Should be under warranty if 2010,

    Cheers Greg

  • what year motor is this need

to know ASAP my motor is 2010 won't start but will turn looking for that fuse that is lose that this person was holding

  • Worth checking the fuse, would be about 2007, Yamaha 40 HP 4 stroke. If your fuse has gone will have no power and motor won't turn over. although could be several other things as well, such as water in your fuel, no spark, Flat battery. Good luck,

    Cheers Greg

  • Check your fuel or spark plugs, if not could be more electrical, at least it runs, but check with your local outboard dealer

  • Hello,

I like this video, but I'm have a hell of a time when 87 Yamaha just started it up today Jane.all the mission coils. But is doing the same thing as last year runs only with the choke wide open or partially closed. I did a compression check today. All cylinders are 95 PSI or 98 PSI in that range.

I bought it online three years ago have not been able to get it to run. Still, it will not idle for longer than a few minutes then it dies need your help in this matter. Thank you

  • Good to know where the fuses are and make sure you have a spare one,

    Cheers Greg
