Using a 10mm long socket 3/8" drive as a punch to push the old assemblies out of the plenum after it was removed from the engine. These isolator bolts have a polymer sleeve that is designed to allow the bolts to keep an elastic tension to hold the plenum to the manifold and to block off any debris or oil that would enter the intake manifold via the PCV system. The original polymer for the OEM black isolator bolts that Ford put into millions of Windstars with 3.8L engines was not oil resistant and would become less elastic after constant exposure. The valve cover allows oil to be sucked into the PCV system, which then passes oil into the intake plenum, where it reacts on these isolator bolt sleeves and so reduces the bolt tension. See Ford Technical Service Bulleting 05-22-6
Replacement of these assemblies was incidental to removing the plenum over the intake manifold in order to clean EGR ports.
