UP 8338: Back on the Move, But Still Having Issues

EMD SD70ACe #8338, GE AC44CW #6547, GE AC44CWCTE #6030, GE C6044AC #7022, and GE C44-9W #9701 lead this long westbound 152-car MNPRV manifest out of Oroville, California on November 11, 2009 at 1:05 PM. GE C45AC #5699 serves as a DP unit, about 20 cars from the rear.

This manifest went into emergency after some pins were apparently pulled, several spots on the train. While getting back on the move and departing town, an eastbound double stack waiting in the siding notified the crew of the manifest and said that they smelled smoke as one of the cars near the end of their train went by and that a hand brake may have been applied somewhere. The conductor, riding in #5699 (the DPU) varified that he didn't see nor smell smoke (though I did).

The crew on the head end of the train contacted dispatch and said that they needed to come to a stop yet again to inspect the rear of the train, which they shortly did thereafter. They later fixed the problem and continued west into Roseville.

The smoke blowing past at the end of the video was of a different matter, coming from a bonfire at a house across the tracks.
