This song -- both the tune and the lyrics -- were actually written by Scottish folk music revivalist Ewan MacColl in 1957. He wrote it at the request of Peggy Seeger for a play she was appearing in. In 1972, the song won him a Grammy for Song of the Year. The only cover he really liked was the one performed by Peter Paul and Mary.

I went to school with this girl. We had both drama, and chore together. I just LOVED her. too bad she didnt make it any further. She's amazing! Love ya Liz!!

Liz you are beautiful and very talented! You should've gone a lot further along on American Idol!

Why is she shouting? Nah, I didn't like her very much in this competition. She would have been eaten up in the Top 12 had she made it through. David Cook ROCKED this song.
The song would hate you, too, if it was able to choose! I, on the other hand, know, like most, that the song is a classic and was sung very well by Elizabeth. I've watched Idol since the 1st season and this is the one person in all those years that I think should have made the Top 12. Elizabeth, you are AWESOME!
