PHILADELPHIA--(September 20, 2010) Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams, Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey and Philadelphia School District's Chief Safety Officer Myron Patterson today released a research report showing that high-quality pre-kindergarten programs are an important part of the solution to reducing problem behaviors of children in school and later violent crime in Philadelphia. The report also shows that investing in quality pre-k could save millions of dollars in the City and state education budgets in the short term. Specifically, pre-k programs reduces the need for special education placements, grade repetition and other K-12 education expenses.
