Reverse? Alert the turret gunner. Shoot him with the cupola gun, or your service pistol? A lot of the Soviet tanks had rear-turret machine guns for just this sort of thing. Or you alert another tank in your formation to shoot him.

Any he may not have realised how close he was, or that the enemy had enough morale to mount a counter-attack.

Alternatively, his other vision options might have been damage. Periscope, optics, etc.

@harlequin2262 besides even if you did spot the enemy running up on you, then what? Chances are he's shoot you, and still be able to run up and drop a AT grenade in the open turret and kill the rest of your crew before they could do anything about it.

@harlequin2262 True. Which brings us back to why I made the first comment. Most tankers observe the enemy from a distance, but button up as they are assaulting. Vision may not be the best but they are not completely blind. and they would be rotating turrets and watching each others blind spots...no roll in driving miss daisy hatch open not paying attention.

And yet a significant amount of Soviet tanks were killed due to Infantry action. It was clearly happening, one way or another. Lack of cooridination, fog of war, etc, I expect. Tankers live on their situational awareness. Don't have it, you're dead either way.

@edwardliberate...Hitler and Stalin both were evil....the Jews tried to emigrate, but the Arab countries persuaded Germany to stop deporting Jews to the middle east. Hitler also want no living Jew to remain in "Liebensraum", where pure Germans would live and farm atop the bones of millions of Jews and other undesirables. The Wehrmacht WAS aware of the murders of Jews behind their blitzkrieg committed by SS...many, maybe most, average German soldiers were honorable, but 6,000,000 Jews died-how?
