Why would you want to do this? When you update, you will probably lose all your data and screw up your mac.

It wont screw up your date. Lets say in 10.5.6 They disabled DFU Mode. You could change it to 10.5.6 So It dosnt ask you to update.

I am still on Leopard 10.5.8. What would happen if 10.6.1 came out and I did the software update by making it think I have 10.6? Would it be a free upgrade to Snow Leopard or would it screw up my computer? Very interesting video; it brought a lot of ideas to my head.

When you update to 10.6.1 you would be screwed because it is updating files that exist or are written in a old language like 10.5 finder.

You change the version.
