This video is the result of my Kodak Zi8 Underwater test using the Ikelite housing. The clips were shot in 720p at 60fps without lights, filters or additional lenses.

The dive site is Fallen Rock Park (Joe Clark Quarry) in La Grange, KY. The visibility was poor and the sky was overcast, but the little camera performed well.

  • did you use the red filter

  • @orthopod4u I didn't use the filter that came with the Ikelite housing, it is for blue water and on this dive the water was green. B&H Photo has a green water filter, but I haven't picked it up yet. Thanks for the video response!

  • I have a Zi8 too, what editing program do you use? And I always have mine set to 60 fps, but it never seems to look it on my computer.

  • @q123477 Thanks for the comment. I edited this in Adobe Premiere Pro, but I also use Final Cut Express and iMove 09 from time to time.

When you begin a new editing project, are you setting your sequence presets to 60 fps? If not, that could be the issue. What editing software are you using?

  • @ChrisClaxton I used to use windows movie maker, but now I'm using the software that came with the Zi8. At first the stuff was nice, but it never exported in as high FPS as I filmed in. How do you set the preset?

  • @q123477 Sorry, I haven't used the software that came with the Zi8, so I don't know if you can set the presets for 60FPS. I would think the software that came with it would either do it automatically or allow you to select 60FPS. If you are on a mac, I would recommend Adobe Premiere Pro or Final cut Pro. If PC, I know people who like Sony Vegas. Good Luck!

  • How did you get it underwater? does it have a case or something?

  • Chris thanks for the video. I have been debating about which video camera to add on to my unit~ I shoot still with the Intova IC10 and have just purchased the IC12. I want to add a small video unit to record the dive while I take stills. My concern was the image being to unstable without a tripod. However, your video shows realistic results from a dive with a good stable picture.

Thanks again for the post. It helps greatly in decision making.

  • @meeeelos Thanks for the comment! The music is called "Pumped Up Breakbeat Rock" from Audio Jungle . net

  • awesome footage, whats the name of the music though?
