Dateline London, a BBC News 24 program featuring print reporters and editors, often with perspectives from outside the UK, talking about current affairs.

This is the full segment of the February 25, 2008 program focusing on Obama, excerpted from a half hour program with diverse topics.

In general, I don't think the attitudes of others, even our allies, should have too much bearing on US elections. But the US is at such a low ebb in worldwide opinion, it's important now. Here are four London-based journalists discussing Barack Obama and his candidacy.

  • It's just adorable that you have opinions, but public opinion data proves you're wrong. The Pew Global Survey, for instance, shows that world opinion of the USA has plummeted in the Bush years. That's what you get with the distilled essence of Republican craziness making horrible decisions for eight years.

  • You can quote surveys all you like, in a couple years, when Obama is deep into his first term, you will see that I was right. Time will tell.

  • So you went from "it makes NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE" to "Time will tell." Something we can agree on. However it will help that the US isn't being run by a gang of incompetent ideologically-driven Republicans who turn everything they touch putrid.

  • DR RON PAUL 4 president 2012

  • Obama is right about outsourcing!

  • hillary should still give it a go down the line

  • 6:10 Bush and his cronies?!?!?! What a load of crap!! It's not Bush's fault we are disliked... that's the American people's fault !! I was much prouder to be an American under Bush than Obama. And the comment about McCain... at least he fought for the country and lived through a POW camp which HAD to be hell. It hurts to see a veteran be beat out by a lie.

  • bbc is dull left wing propaganda. Watch it only if you have sleeping problems.

  • Hillary would have been a mistake. The only reason Obama gave her the Sec. of State job was to shut up her supporters.

  • Fast forward to 2009. The Democrats only care about winning in 2009 and 2012.

I wonder how all of them feel now?

  • to the indian woman

DOWN WITH OUTSOURCING JOBS MUST STAY IN OUT OUR COUNTRY

  • ahaaa you're so right.

by the way have you seen the video, i think it's either letterman or a sketch from bill maher which details obama's visits to nations all around the world, then at the end him calling up bush and saying "is there anyone you didn't piss off"

  • This is very interesting to watch in hindsight. I have to say however that Obama still looks good to me. Almost 3 months into the job, and i still love him to death! This is not so much about "drinking the cool-aid"..although i know some will disagree with that, but for me, i can see that Obama's heart is in the right place.

The job is not easy, i don't agree with him on everything, but his heart is in the right place and that, ABSOLUTELY works for me!!!
