A side by side comparison in real world conditions of winter tyres and summer tyres on rear and front wheel drive cars. Test conducted in December 2010 in Wales on untreated private road. Conclusions are that any winter tyres is better than no winter tyre, new winters are much better than worn ones, and a rear wheel drive car with good winters on is just as good as a front wheel drive one in the real world.

A lot of people wil spend a lot of money buying and running a 4x4, just so they can get off the housing estate if it snows. These 4x4 drivers don't really need 4 wheel drive. Just a set of winter tyres.

Now you know that is not true. Traction control yes. But a slippy diff in a bog standard 320d. I think not!

Vreds were rubbish down the hill breaking. Just got some wintrac xtremes for my a3. Hope they do better than that!!! Good video.

That was really just a solid sheet of ice/hard packed snow. To be fair nothing would have stopped on it. If you see when my brother stops in the focus he is a bit closer to the camera where there is a bit of gravel . When he moves off he too slides to the bottom of the hill. Even my 4wd tractor failed to drive up the track on the ice at that point and had to go around on the field! I am very impressed with the vreds. You won't be disappointed.
