http://www.woodthatworks.com/kinetic-sculptures/phoenix/ A Phoenix is a mythical bird that lived for 500 years, consumed itself by fire and then arose from the ashes. I don't pretend that this sculpture does anything quite so dramatic but it does remind me of both flight and fire. The patterning wheels are also similar to ones I used in a 1989 sculpture called Dragon so there's even a bit of rebirth to complete the naming.
