i've obsessed over finding this on Youtube for years since hearing it many years ago on radio...it's MAGICAL, music, poetry and performance! the way they both slither through the high chromaticism and psychological tension is BEYOND BELIEF! furtwangler gives an incredible sense of being symphonic color and almost jazz-like pull..

No interpretation can match this one. The slow tempo, amazing colour of voice, high spirit, the greatest Lieder-singing of all time. Even genius Fischer-Dieskau could not reach a stage so high like this one. And please consider to listen in this same recital Im Frühling... this one is apotheothic

Agreed !! ...this and "Wiegenlied im Sommer" were the highlights of this 1953 Salzburg recital.

Lovely - Thank you

This is what Elisabeth would sing to herself in heaven, and we are hearing an echo of that here.

I was blown over by this the first time I heard and have listened to it many times. She was unique.

do you have the others from this live recital? like Schlafende Jesuskind, and the lovely, delicate Wiegenlied im Sommer?
