That was really nice to see that the cow was let do what comes naturally - lucky you were there though as the calf could possibly have drowned in that water - but we are too quick to jump in and pull - in my experience cows like to lie down to birth and usually make really good mothers.

Acutually it was all over very quickly - she didn't have a hard time.
We'd just turned up and had to evaluate whether any cows/calves were at risk - there were 4 or 5 others born that morning or during the night.
As you can see from my blog, I was spending one year on a farm - so a farmer yes but new to the job.
