I'm trying not to be too romantic or realistic with this. It seems to me that the argument the Deaf uses against the audists, "Deaf people can do everything, expect hear", is weak. I believe that Deaf people can hear, but simply in a different way than how hearing people hear.
I can hear and I'm taking ASL American Sign Language 1 and I have no idea what u just said with your hands but I hope I do when I'm better in sign language, I took ASL because i ran into many deaf people were I work and i would love to talk to them.

Also, they can hear as in listening what people have to say either with OR without hearing a single sound. Kinda like saying "I HEAR ya" as in I know what you mean. That's why I get peeved by "falling on deaf ears" in newspapers. Deaf can be good "listener"
Deaf have a "voice" and can "speak out" as well in ASL.

yes, they can hear. just about all deaf have some residual hearing enough to hear a loud sounds and some can use Hearing aids. And if they can't use hearing aids, they can use cochlear implants. While they can hear something from devices, doesn't mean they can understand the sounds they are hearing if their brain was not wired auditory though (have to be learned at a young age).
