The Happy Hour Guys at Dark Lord Day 2009!

In the pantheon of BEER HAPPENINGS, there are a few days that stand out in the calendar from all the rest; and near the very top of that list is Dark Lord Day. With the help of a Golden Ticket, a rental car and a dream, The Happy Hour Guys find themselves in Munster Indiana, at Three Floyds Brewing Company for this festival honoring the one-day-only release of their Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout.

This truly gargantuan beer has an alcohol by volume content of 13% and in 2008 was reviewed by ratebeer.com as "the best beer IN THE WORLD". Well, with press like that, we had to be there! We expected a circus atmosphere (there were thousands in attendance), but what we didn't expect was just how downright cool everyone was. Join us for a taste of stories, homebrew swaps, games, fun, and of course some awesome beer, at Dark Lord Day 2009!

I am going to attended the DLD this year. How long should I except to wait in line? Is getting there early better than later? If you have a ticket, are you guarantied to get a bottle or 4? Any tips or tricks will do. Thanks!

@norman1080 Hey Norm - you can expect to wait in line for a while, and you should get there early. I got there at like 9AM last year and the line was already LONG. A ticket may not guarantee you bottles if you're too far at the end of the line and they run out. Every year they judge the amount of people there and then decide how many bottles to give out per ticket, anywhere from 1-4. I'd say get there by no later than 9AM, and be patient. Enjoy all the beer folk. Have a great time!

You were lucky to find it... we're based in NYC, so are in the same boat as you, either getting 3 Floyd's shipped to us or waiting for an excuse to go to Indiana. Hopefully now that they've opened the brew pub and have that out of the way they'll start looking again at wider distribution. Cheers!

Haha, Yea a Belgian road trip would be awesome. I live in PA and i actually found Pride and Joy, and Alpha King at a take-out place not far from me, this was about 4-5 years ago and little did i know i should have bought their entire stock because that was the very last time i ever saw 3 floyds, and trust me, i called around to many many distributors, take-outs, bottle shops, and NOONE could get 3 floyds from that time until now, and who knows, maybe never :(
