On October 20, 1944, General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his promise to return to the Philippines by setting foot to the shore of Palo, Leyte with his naval, marine and airborne forces that ended the cruelty of the Second World War. Today, his monument is now a famous landmark not only in the Philippines but to the entire Asia. The history that he made, now remains in the heart and mind of every Leyteño.

  • Everytime I have been in Tacloban I have been i Palo and seen the monument. I like the place and I know the story even I am from Denmark.

If you look very carefully on the satue of General MacArthur you will find a mistake

The statue show the insignia for General of the Army, That was not the correct rank at the day for the landing on Leyte. General MacArthur get the rank General of the Army December 18, two month after the landing on Leyte .

  • I'm very much delighted of your comment Sir Thaiferie. I just hope YouTubers who love digging history can help correct the error.

Anyway, thank you very much for your very keen eyes.

    God Bless

  • I am 64 yrs old and never knew of such a wonderful memorial to Gen. MacArthur. Thank you for 'posting' this video.

  • I've read Manchester's ' American Caesar' three times...

He did not abandon the Phillipines, and regardless of his ego, he was the greatest American general ever....

    what a mastermind of tactics.....

  • Sir, kindly visit my other video, The Colours of Basey for other important facts that pushed for the surrender of the Japanese Imperial Army during the WW II in this part of the world. Thank you very much.

  • Gen MacArthur was the U.S.'s greatest war General. Had he been born German or Japanese we might not have won WWII.
