The aren't many solo guitar arrangements of this lovely melody to be found so I had to make up my own. They say the carol comes form the 12th century. Whether or not that's true it has been popular for the last few hundred years in Enniscorthy in County Wexford which is in the South East corner of Ireland. To my ear it certainly has resonances of medieval English music. Most renditions of this song are done in a dreamy Celtic Twilight fashion and some of these are really lovely; see for example the version by Alison Krauss where she is accompanied by Yo-Yo Ma on cello - wonderful. None of that dreamy stuff for me however; I'm a fingerpicker for goodness sake! Anyway, I'm told that in the the 12th century carol music was for dancing to - so with this jaunty version of the Wexford Carol I'm just continuing a very old tradition. Should anyone want it, I have written out the tab for this piece. Just let me know what email address to use and I will send it to you (use the YouTube personal message facility for confidentiality). Maybe you can improve on my version - aw come on, I'm sure you can!
