An Icelandic folk song, Móðir mín í kví, kví. A young woman gave me an mp3 file of this song saying she thought it was compatible with music performed in the SCA. I think the song is hauntingly beautiful. I made a simple arrangement for the local music group, Skyn, Wynde and Wyre, to perform at Vinland Games, a Shire-Marche of Blak Rose event held in the East Kingdom.
Information on the words and the translation I gleaned from the comments on the Seth Sharp arrangement of this folk song.
Móðir mín í kví, kví,
kvíddu ekki því, því;
ég skal ljá þér duluna mína
duluna mína að dansa í,
ég skal ljá þér duluna mína
duluna mína að dansa í.
My mother in the pen, pen
don't you worry for, for
I shall loan you these rags of mine
rags of mine to dance in
I shall loan you these rags of mine
rags of mine to dance in
Beautiful! I really like how you caught the atmosphere, although personally I like this song best when sung by a haunting voice and a lone instrument. But that's my personal preference, and your version and the performance are both beautiful. I'm glad I found this video!
Thank you!
