San Francisco-based Design Within Reach (DWR), a retailer of well-designed furnishings and accessories commissioned longtime Airstream collaborator Chris Deam to come up with a holistic model for an Airstream that would perfectly telegraph the DWR core values of authorship and curated authority in design.
The DWR Airstream travel trailer is a tribute to classic modern design, but it's not only a potential museum piece, it's designed to be part of your life. Hitch up and drive wherever you want to go—the middle of nowhere (Joshua Tree? Canyonlands?), or the middle of Manhattan, where you can now see a vintage Airstream in the Museum of Modern Art. Drive all night, or unhitch and linger: the DWR Airstream is designed for both.

Modern American and European designers were tapped to provide the dramatic flooring, the engineered textiles for the dinette cushions and window treatments, as well as Italian laminate countertops and perforated metal accents. The interior also includes a high quality Sony sound system and flat screen TV, and optional wireless external speaker.

The DWR Airstream is a mere 16 feet, 7 inches in length. Although compact, the efficiency of design is simple, yet incredibly functional. The exterior features Airstream's famously sleek aluminum skin design and custom pull-out awning. The interior incorporates a new design sensibility, unique materials, and modern classic furnishings — Hellerware indoor/outdoor dinnerware, a Nelson Ball clock, British designer Tom Dixon's coatrack, and luxurious bedding from Matteo.

  • How much would used 2004 international be worth in 16 like this one are they selling 10k over book?

  • @superhawkn Airstreams typically sell for well over book. Please check the floor for rot because that was an issue with the older 16' and 22' models that were built with flakeboard flooring. Check out the airforums website for more details.

  • Will u make a vid of the new PanAmerican? Please do!!

  • We are already one step ahead, it has been on youtube for a couple of weeks now.

  • I think they're so expensive because they last forever and don't look like FEMA trailers.

  • A clock, a coat rack, some plates, and a bed are nice.

But not $50k worth of nice.

  • Chinese music with Chinese red awning. XD

  • These are not 50K....a new 2011 16 Sport (Bambi) is more like 36K...14K cheaper than 50K.....I wonder if my 2011 VW GTI could pull one?!??!?!?....if so, I am getting one!

  • My sister is contemplating moving into a 27' foot airstream. I can see the attraction.

  • you sure thats not 12'?

  • @AlkyStyles

Sure, if you spend your entire lifetime going to "music festivals" instead of working, then this would be a great trailer to buy.

So you're saying you're going to spend $50k on this trailer?

  • oh yea? have you ever gone to a music festival with outhouse style bathroom facilities...I'll take the private toilet thanks & keep the pantry in the tow vehicle.
